An imitation of Edgar Allen Poe I wrote for Creative Writing class.
Revenge

I wander the stones
As the golden light fades,
From the dirt rises fear
In the form of the Shades.
My beloved, I sharpen my blades.

They swirl so slowly –
Specters of the past,
Reminders of my beloved
As I stare, eyes downcast.
My darling, I come at last.

The wretched demons snatched her!
Tore her from my breast!
I swore one day to exact revenge.
My love undying I professed.
My sweetheart, I will not rest.

Dirt grinds through my fingers,
Dropping broken to the ground.
As yet my promise is unfulfilled,
But tomorrow I will be southbound.
My love, soon your sleep will be sound.

Cracked graves are strangled by time
Desolate and forgotten.
My grave, too, will soon there rest
Next to yours, my wish I have gotten.
My dear, you will never be forgotten.
