People where masks--don't forget to wear yours....
Masquerade

Life is like a Masquerade.
Polite people in their nice tailored suits,
Pleases and Thank You’s,
You’re welcome—
No frowns….
Here, take the mask,
Put it on—Quick!
Before anyone should see your face.
Your pretty, but disfigured face.
Your face is your soul,
Darling,
You must protect it well.
Those who see it can take advantage.
Ball gowns and bright colors;
They’re everywhere around you.
They’re distracting you from the truth,
The truth that you hide,
The truth that you live.
The mask is still on,
Hiding the truth, even from you.
The mask which you have come to know,
Come to memorize,
Come to love….
It is the only thing that you have now.
The mask is your face.
Your face is the mask.
You’re at the ball now.
You’re living.
Living in the Masquerade.
