Winter can take more than your warmth....
The wind bows across
frozen branches,
playing a harsh harmony
to winter's symphony...

A tattoo of ice crystals provides
a cymbal like beat that
counterpoints the rhythm
of my heart.

She lies under the glacial ground
in a sheltered spot deep
in the forest but her ghost
haunts my days and nights...

The warmth of her arms,
the softness of her lips,
the spark of life that dances
in her beautiful eyes...
all taken from me,
all drained away by the
cold hand of death.

The music calls to me
in a lover's voice and I hear
her soft footfalls when the
wind breathes in and,
in that singular silence,
I feel her presence.

I step out, my breath thickly clouding
in the momentary light and,
as the door closes behind me,
the melody of loneliness
calls me into the darkness.

We will dance again tonight...
