Early Morning surprise prepared by pet cats
CHRISTMAS CATS

On the third day pre Christmas
I crept down the stairs
A little uncertain
No noise and no stares;

Not a creature was stirring
Of course! not a mouse
As I turned from the stairway
To gaze through the house;

All cats were inside
The house from the cold
Still as in limbo,
None jumped to my hold;

The aroma of tomcat
Waft through the air;
The boys complained loudly,
Confined in their lair;

As I turned on bare feet
I came to the kitchen;
I felt crunch and tickle
And felt my heart quicken.

On Bengals On Abys
On Triple Grand Master
what have you done here?
what is this disaster?

There, a full pound
Of San Francisco's finest
Was spread across three rooms
In tracks,swirls and catnests.

Slowly and quietly
Perpetrators sauntered
Into my eyesight
They staggered and wandered.

As I picked up my broom
To reap a small harvest,
They lept into action
To run and ingest,

Each last little morsel
Of their dizzy delight,
A whole pound of catnip
Reduced to half light.

No fighting, no scowling
All ages among them,
Twenty-three then
Sang with a hummmm.

Merry Christmas dear Mom
In your robe as you come,
Thank you for giving
Our best gift of all.
