a vague image from before
In the early days
before the Traveling Years
I remember you clearly.
Once I stood over you as you slept,
afraid of waking you, but less so
than of the darkness behind me.
When I could take no more,
I curled up on the rug beneath you
and closed my eyes,
yielding to dreamless sleep.
