Taking the enlightened stance that fear in sports can be considered a phobia...
All hail, the prestigious torch-bearer,
On his or her shoulders, the weight of the lighted scepter,
On a brief trek beginning thousands of miles away –
Proud men and women restoring
The brightest flame to its saintly home.
The flaming scepter,
A symbol of historic activities and accomplishments,
And the reduction, or absence, of fear
By the superior and trustworthy warriors
In the immaculate world of sports.
The greatest obstacle, having no fear
Of the somewhat obvious and apparent limits
To the individual prowess and gains being sought –
Bearing the proud torch with calm
And without reservations
For the gripping and tumultuous phobias
Plaguing all humanity,
In our eager and obvious attempt to say,
“I can do anything – yes, it can be done!”
For with fear, one loses the momentum,
And sometimes, the spirit,
To quench the insatiable desire
Which all human beings have,
To reach and go beyond one’s limits
To achieve the unthinkable!
