Space sonnet for The Writer's Cramp
Change Of Orbit

The orbiters will soon be down for good,
their service lives for Man's advancement spent.
Right from the start we thought we understood,
but still we are amazed at what they've meant.

They've helped to build an island out in space -
from whence we see the world that is our home -
in countless ways enhanced the human race,
and carried us where few have dared to roam.

Discovery's excitement drives us still;
we cherish all the things that we have learned.
Near-sacred vows of duty we'll fulfill,
to honor those who've gone and not returned.

         Crews of Orion, poised to do your part:
         Let exploration fire up your heart!
