Who do we really deceive?
Fresh lines etch my face,
harden my eyes.
I wish I could claim laugh lines.
The truth is much sadder.

Harden my eyes,
with care and remove my smile.
Less I deny your pain is valid,
be called callous and uncaring.

I wish I could claim laugh lines,
but like a table with a bad leg,
I am not supportive of your misery,
if I don't wear this paper frown.

The truth is much sadder.
to truly be the taxi driver
for your heart, I must search
my emotional dictionary for 'sadness.'
