A poem about the grind of the daily grind, complete with snakes and opium dreams
All You Have to Do is Tap Your Heels"

The morning alarm clock rings
I was already up since 4am
With the beginning sun fading into
Daylight. I am sick of feeling sick,
Or sorry for myself and I struggle to
Kick myself into gear.

I'm out of the house in seven minutes.
The day is glorious. I wish I had time
To enjoy it more but, I miss the little things,
Like the morning birds, the bums
Sound asleep with no dreams, no care
Given up and lovely.

The only thing I notice is the subway
Lights appearing before the train does
And the unruly noise right before

I am underground bound for Grand Central
In a giant aluminum snake.
In the moment before the doors open
I drift

I'm waiting for that bubble to appear
Over the opium field in Oz
And, Glinda the Good witch
To wisper in my ear
"I won't tell you because you
Need to find out for yourself"

But I am shaken back to reality
"Next Stop Union Square"
