For Savannah
I loved you then and I love you now
Despite the sting of death

And I cared for you; I gave my all
With every fighting breath

You're not the first to leave me
Surely you won't be the last

The pain will stray, but my heart will stay
Forever hidden in the past

You were a lofty goal for me
A thing I thought I couldn't have

But you were mine for just a moment
Before slipping through my grasp

All the hurt and all the tears
Are worth our quiet times

And maybe when I'm through with years
Again you can be mine
