This is a conversation I had with my mother after she died.
My Heart Sings

I had a talk with my mom on the other side

She said, “sing me a song”, then I saw her eyes

In the sky and the clouds, and it was so wild

My mother’s eyes make my heart smile

She laughed as she said, “it was then and is now”

I nodded and said, “all at the same time”

I said I won’t sing, but now here’s the thing

My mother’s eyes make my heart sing…

And then she sang an old Carpenter’s song

About being a child and singing along

She said it’d make me smile, but this could take awhile

And The Carpenters are not my style

“Now I have my pride, but for you I will try.”

She said, “It’s ok, your heart sings anyway;

No strings, no loss, in this you will find

That our heart strings ever entwine”

I had a talk with my mom on the other side

She said, “sing me a song”, then I saw her eyes

In the sky and the clouds, and it was so wild

My mother’s eyes make my heart smile

She laughed as she said, “it was then and is now”

I nodded and said, “all at the same time”

I said I won’t sing, but now here’s the thing

My mother’s eyes make my heart sing…
