Mother,
I had almost
forgotten the thrill until today
when the island, hubbed in wrought iron,
brought it back to me: And once more I let go
your hand and ran to follow the chatter of monkeys
that pulled me, unpossessed, into the tropic sky
and shadowed jungle green,
and, for a moment,
left us both
uncaged.
