Some picnics end well... or so I'm told.
Potato Salad

I stifle a yawn as Ralf drones on and
on. Will he ever stop, or notice the
glop of potato salad on his chin?
The hot sun beats down, and Ralf starts a new…

Was that a drop I felt? There’s hardly a
cloud in the sky. There, I felt another.
As the rain starts to pelt, I grab napkins
and run, leaving the potato salad.

Grace, not married to Ralf just yet, screeches.
Her shoes are soaked, her dress is soaked, and her
potato salad is filled to the brim.
I offer a towel as they leave… soaked.

"I thought that they would never leave. Saved by
the soaker-hose-on-the-roof trick once more."

Written for Day 3 of the Invalid Item  activity.
