Love in the End

Once upon a time there lived a girl named Skyler Jannell Landerfill in the town of Quail, Utah. Quail is a small town of about 1400 people. Skyler went to Quail High School. She was the most beautiful girl anybody had ever seen. She had a lot of friends. Everybody seemed to love her. Her friends consisted of some girls and lots of guys, but she had a very best friend named Steven. Skyler and Steven had been best friends since elementary school; they had lived down the street from each other most of their lives. Steven was the one special person she told everything to. He was the one person that knew her deepest darkest secrets. Steven also knew that she had everything, but there was one thing she didn’t have, that she was always looking for. It was love. There were tons of guys that always wanted to date her and she always went to Steven when someone asked her out. He would always tell her it wasn’t a good idea because all the guys in town were jerks and they only wanted one thing. She trusted Steven’s opinion the most, so she always went with what he said. They always were around each other. They always hung out with each other when they had the chance. Some people thought they were secretly dating, others knew better, but thought they should date anyway. Steven always had girlfriends and Skyler was ok with it and understood that it was a two way relationship. He dated this one girl, Bailey, she was beautiful, but not like Skyler. Steven fell madly in love with Bailey and Skyler knew it. Before she finally realized Steven and Bailey were in love, she had found the one special love she was looking for, and the entire time he was there in front of her face. By the time she had realized that she loved Steven, she knew it was too late. She decided to think of reasons why it would never work between her and Steven so she wouldn’t be so depressed. There was only one… and it was the fact that Steven and Bailey were madly deeply in love. So she went on with life knowing that she had lost her true love, but she cried herself to sleep every night because she knew it would never happen. She was slowly drifting apart from her beloved Steven and he had realized this. He wanted to talk to her so bad because he could see the sadness in her eyes and he could also see that her heart was slowly breaking into a million tiny sharp little pieces.

There had been an incident earlier that year with Bailey and she was being forced to move across the United States to Virginia. Even though Skyler’s heart was breaking she was there for Steven. She tried to be strong for Steven. Months went by and she tried to hold her feelings in, but one day she couldn’t hold it in anymore. She decided to tell Steven how she really felt about him and he basically told her the things that she already knew, like he was in love with Bailey and he didn’t like her like that. She was crushed, but they stayed best friends. She still told him everything and then after a few months went by she started to realize that Bailey and Steven’s relationship was starting to crumble slowly, but she also knew that they would try to stick it out with their love for each other. She still loved Steven, just as she had before she told him her feelings for him, and she knew if Bailey and Steven’s relationship did crumble to pieces she would be there for him when it came crashing down. She knew that she would always try to be there for him just as he was to her. Months went by and nothing big happened, but she could feel their friendship grow bigger and bigger each time they hung out. She tried and tried so hard to hide the feelings she still had for him, but what she didn’t know, is that he was starting to like her a lot. He was starting to really love her. One night he was thinking about breaking up with Bailey because it was just too hard to keep going like it was. He was going to break up with her that night and then go to Skyler’s house to tell her how he really felt. What he didn’t know about Skyler was that she had been to the doctor in recent days and she found out she had brain cancer. She didn’t tell Steven because she thought it would upset him. And she was really depressed about it. He had noticed her acting strange when she was around everybody and in class, but when he asked her about it she would say it was nothing, just a headache. He believed her. She tried to push him away so he wouldn’t hurt as bad when she passed, but he wouldn’t let up. So that night he went to her house to confront her about that and tell her how he really felt and if she felt that way about him still then he was going to break it off with Bailey. He was almost to her house when he started thinking it was a bad idea, but decided to go on with it. He went to her front door and rang the door bell, she answered it, he could see that she had been crying and he asked, “What’s wrong? Why have you been crying and so distant from me lately?” she just looked at him as she wiped away the last tear and finally said, “Why are you here? You’re the last person I wanna see.” He looked at her strange. She rolled her eyes and said, “Come in, you’re gonnna need to sit down for this.” He still looked extremely confused as he walked in and sat on her couch in the living room. She looks at him and says, “I have brain cancer that’s pretty advanced and it can’t be taken out because of where it’s at.” He was so shocked that he had forgotten what he had come to say. He just sat there as one silent slow tear slid down his face. She started to cry. At first, he thought it was because he was and then she told him that it was so advanced that she could die in a matter of a few days. She was crying because her head was hurting so bad that the pain was unbearable. She was starting to get dizzy and suddenly she collapsed he caught her before she hit the floor. He sat on the floor against the black velvet couch as he held her. They were both still crying, as her strength was slowly fading from her body and he could feel it leaving her. As she sobbed, she told him the story of how she came to realize she was in love with him and the last thing she ever said to him was, “I love you. Goodbye, my love” and she closed her eyes weakly and she quietly died in his arms right before he got a chance to tell her that he loved her back. Right after he told her, he realized she didn’t get the message because she had stopped breathing. He held her hand and realized something was in it, a note. It read:

         Steven,

I will always love you and I always have. May your life be full with love just as I had loved you. I know we never got a chance to actually be with each other, but I know you loved me just as much as I loved you. I’ll wait for in heaven and I’ll be patient until you get here. Take your time and don’t waste it, I promise I will be at the gates waiting for you to come in.

                                                                                                                            Love Skyler

As he walked home in the pouring rain he cried and asked himself why. When he got home, he called bailey and broke it off. He went to the funeral 3 days later. He tried to go on and live life just as Skyler had told him, but it was lonely and he was lost without his one and only best friend and love. She was everything to him. His whole world and now it was gone. Months went by and his parents worried as he got more and more depressed. They thought it was ridiculous for him to be so emotional over one girl, but they didn’t understand the love he had for her. Even though she was still in his heart he felt empty. He never felt anything. He never ate, never slept, didn’t do his homework, he just stayed in his room all day doing nothing. One day his mother came home early from work, she wanted to talk to him and try and cheer him up. When she came home the house was dark and a little too quiet. She went to his bedroom and knocked on the door. When there was no answer she tried to open it, but it was locked. She finally got the door open and when she opened it, she shrieked because she had found her son hanging in his closet with a scar on his chest that read ”Skyler” and a note in his hand that read:

         Mom and dad,

Sorry, but I cannot live without my dearest love Skyler. It has been months and I feel no different than the day she passed. I have gone to see my dearest Skyler and hold her for eternity and now we both no longer hurt. I feel horrible for being selfish to you and doing this, but it pains me too much to live without my love and my best friend. I know she told me to wait, but it was something I just can’t do. I loved her with all my heart and I couldn’t bear to live without her anymore. Again, I’m deeply sorry for this trouble.

                                                                                                            Steven
