LOVE NEVER FORGETS

The family gathered together, smaller now,
so many have moved too far away to come
and so many other times we have gathered
to mourn the passing of another loved one.

Love never forgets, and at the sound of music,
another very soft rendition of Amazing Grace -
I see and remember the brothers and sisters
who have left this family, this life, this place.

How does anyone go on without realizing
there will be a different gathering at times
when we celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving;
it is the bitter emptiness that loss defines.

The one thing that will keep us looking ahead
is the children and grandchildren who form
a new generation of family, we are blessed
when each new child is conceived and born.

And for those who have passed on, I say
"I know they are in Heaven and at rest."
Finally, through tears and mourning I say,
in truth, "A loving God knows best."
