For my friend Ida
Ida Mae sat on a stone
beside the babbling brook
playing love songs
in big meaty cords
on her bass guitar.

Ida knew love lost
and love found.
She wondered as leaves
and tiny floating things went by
if this was where love
was to be found.

The notes flew off
from a particularly
soulful, loving groove,
danced just above her head,
trapped in the leaves
of a green poplar tree.

Nineteen yards
of extension cord
and a battered
Behringer amplifier
sang lost love tunes.

Emerald pixies
embraced the notes
and played with the music,
polishing sadness into love,
dripping from a pierced soul.

Ida Mae sat on a stone
beside the babbling brook
playing love songs
in big meaty cords
on her bass guitar.
