This sonnet was inspired by the loss of my Grandmother.
Goodbye

In eastern skies the sun is rising high,
I stir from slumber, waking slowly. Birds
are singing, proud to great the dawn. I cry
with heavy sobs, whilst searching thoughts for words
to express feelings circling round my head.
Her face a lonely vision swimming there,
at last is free to fly in peace from bed.
Her soul is heard as light as breeze on air
that passes by my window. Still I weep
for comfort. Solace will not appear. Life
is cruel, it takes its bounty while we sleep.
We wake to find nothing’s left but strife.
The world will keep on turning passing by
my grief. I’ll hold it till the day I die.
