A poem about becoming a friend with someone who is different or has a disability.
Be My Friend

I am different, but you may not be aware,
because I don't wear glasses or ride in a wheelchair.
If you do that is fine.
You can still be a friend of mine.

I am not deaf, but sometimes I might
point to a picture, and that's alright.
It is okay if you sign,
you can still be a friend of mine.

It may be obvious or maybe not,
being different takes a lot.
Please be patient, take your time,
you can still be a friend of mine.

I have autism,
my differences are within.
Sometimes it's hard for me to pretend,
but still you can be my friend!

So, I guess what it is I'm asking you
is to look pass differences that are new.
Focus on what matters in the end,
I'm asking you to be my friend.
