In this poem an autistic child is telling another child that he is not all that different.
I'm Not as Different as You Think!

My day starts the same as yours,
a day of school, and then some chores.
I ride a bus, just like you.
There's not much difference in what we do.

I can ride a bike, and love to swing,
my difference is just a little thing.
I love to line up my toy train,
my difference is inside my brain.

I may do things a little different than you,
but I laugh when I'm happy and cry when I'm blue.
I love cookies, and kool-aid to drink,
I'm not as different as you think.

So, when you meet someone like me,
a little different we may be,
but being cruel, that sure does stink!
Remember, I'm not as different as you think!
