A Wish to Dance

This year I will ambush the aging sniper tucked in the back hallway closet.
Hacking through the jungle of outgrown snow pants and long-forgotten overcoats,
taking back the dusty hill of toppling books and heaving board games –
Reclaiming My Turf.

After, I will count on resilience to push through,
Like the early green of spring scallions willfully marching through my side yard,
Flawless – childlike, despite the promised blow from this assassin’s blade.

Mending the endlessly weeping pipe in my too dark and damp basement,
Looking beneath my careful bed for longer than the time it takes to
Find that errant shoe or sock – but nothing else.
These will be good places to start.

This year I plan to remember not to forget to:
- water the plants
- take a multivitamin
- sort through my mail daily
- and try tofu… again

Closing my eyes,
I will commit these thoughts to song,
This song to memory,
And dance.
