A tribute to my dad's dutiful wearing of neckties - a rhyming poem.
Dad couldn’t dress casual
When he’d wear one of his ties –
His slaving hard was typical
For the wife and two little guys!

His sons, young and healthy,
Making Dad feel so rich,
While his job earned him money,
As Mom made his salary stretch…

I will always remember,
Our mom, careful and wise,
Giving advice with pleasure,
And picking Daddy’s dress ties!

Wearing these dressy articles,
So stylish, yet not chic,
Were never, ever the spectacles
Of some inappropriate geek…

Dad would come home every day
And we would never scoff,
For he would finally have his way,
And take his necktie off!

Wearing a tie was never for naught,
For it was our dad’s solemn duty –
Getting his paycheck was what he sought,
A true, but dire necessity!
