picture 2 McDonalds Arch Memory Lane
"Harry Truman was our president
A coke an burger cost you thirty cents
I was still in love with Mavis Brown
On the night Hank Williams came to town."

-Johnny Cash "The Night Hank Williams Came to Town"

Life should be black and white,
like print and pictures saved
from the newspaper you could get
for 5 cents at Scotty Richardson's General Store
in Rumford Center after lunch with your dad
at the shiny new McDonald's Hamburger Stand.

Like the print and pictures,
simple and sweet and lovely,
we carry the past in our mind.
Life is a nostalgic trip, slowly walking
down a lonely lilac fringed lane,
to pick a bouquet for mom's birthday.

From the newspaper you could get
stories of country fairs
and new calves born
at roadside farms across the land
and all the events from across the seas,
in places foreign and far away.

For 5 cents at Scotty Richardson's General Store,
I could have bought a mountain of candy,
as dessert after a burger and fries,
but my daddy gave me a penny
for two gumballs;
a great treat!

In Rumford Center, after lunch with your dad,
the time is right to walk and explore.
Old Civil War statues and cannon
stand in the shade of oak trees
near the old ferry landing.
Life is quiet and slow here.

At the shiny new McDonald's Hamburger Stand,
for 25 cents each we ate our fill
then walked around our little town.
Days out with my daddy
are among my favorite memories
of the way life should be.
