Feelings and emotions about the time spent before surgery.
I am here for my friend
as she awaits the knife.
We converse at length,
of Family, Friends and life.

Time grinds slowly on,
and she's craving a smoke.
They come yet again
and only give her a poke.

Her nerves are shot,
emotions are high,
Twas a long, hard road,
But now time draws nigh.

Fingers tap on the edge of the bed.
We watch the clock tick down
and she pulls at the ties
of her hospital gown.

Nurses in and then out
of the pre-op room.
Questions, prods and tests.
She feels impending doom.

At last, they come
and wheel her away.
She will not remember much
of this long and tiring day.
