Describes life as a work in progress and how we work toward unrealistic perfection.
A Work in Progress

Life is wild;
unstable,
a cup filled to the brim
with the unexpected.

Mountain lions
scavenge fresh meat
at every corner.
The "shuffle" begins...
two left, two right;
five steps at a time.
Look back, look left,
look right.

Don't be deceived,
Look at where you are.
Are you afraid
of what you might see?
I know I am.

You only see
imperfections.
You list everything
needing to be changed.
Inch by inch,
a worm
marching, reaching,
and working toward
perfection.

So rigid in thought-
you fail to see
the blessings,
the triumphs.

Life's an artist,
a work in progress.
One stroke at a time,
made up of right and wrong
masterpieces.

Change appears
at night
by surprise.
Little by little,
the caterpillar becomes
the butterfly-
but along the way,
always a work in progress.
