The blessings of sitting on a porch swing
The Porch Swing

The creaking sounds from my porch swing
mingle with familar neighborhood noises--
the dull thunk of a child hitting a softball
and young voices cheering him on.
A quiet, contented smile stretches across my face.

While the swing gently sways back and forth
I watch as neighbors work in flower beds,
the fragrance of flowers and dirt filling the air.
The scent of freshly mown grass wafts my way
as I notice the singing of a nearby lawnmower.

Nothing soothes me more than
shelling peas on the front porch even if
an unexpected thundershower sends
neighbors running, I feel peace in my soul.

My mind is quiet and still,
making room for the Lord to speak
through His Holy scriptures, reassuring me,
comforting me, and reminding
me of the many blessings I have.
