The end of a love affair.
Blackness settles upon me
as the cold seeps through my soul
my body shivers with reminders
of how you once made me whole
you gently placed your shoulder
beneath my aching head
and let my tears fall upon you
when i thought i was better off dead
you kissed me ever so softly
with my face cupped in your hands
you picked me up into your arms
and gave me the power to stand
you cried empty tears in pity
to make me believe you cared
your intentions were good you only meant well
because you knew i was so scared.
so now you're stuck pretending
a love you never had
because of your guilt and pity
you'd hate to see me sad
but this charade has lasted too long
now you must tell me how you feel
because deep inside i'll always know
your feelings never were real
so if you're gonna leave me
please let me go tonight
and in the darkness I will mourn
before the shadows turn to light.
