I wrote this shortly after a relationship ended due to distance.
This isn't really poetry, no ryhme or tempo to see at all.
This is just me, enjoy it if you can.

Bitter Sweet Love

My soul, caked in sorrow and despair.
I watched from afar as my life slowly ticked by.
A flower bloomed so far from reach.
A petal gleaming like a star in a far of land.
She came to me, we danced and dined,
Loving each moment that we held each other.
My soul, it shook of it's slumber,
Wings unfolding, feeble, unsure but ready to fly.

My love has returned across the ocean and our paths are no longer entwined.
I falter, my heart skips a beat.
The new wings blooming on my back doubt, suddenly unsure of their purpose.
A tear runs down my cheek, my lips curl up to meet them with a rueful smile.
I'm awake now, my wings will stay and I will not allow my soul to decay.

My eyes open, I thank the love that woke me.
I'll always shed a tear for what could have been.
But I will not fall from the sky she helped me reach.
I look around and see beauty and am glad to be alive again.
Sweet petal, I thank you with all my heart for your gift.
