(According to Celtic legend, Samhain is the only night of the year that the dead can return to life. Tradition was to leave food and drink out for these spirits so they would leave the living in peace. This is one of the ancient pagan myths we (allegedly) incorporated into Halloween with children dressed up as ghosts and goblins seeking treats).

Beneath this wet and muddy earth, I lie awake and ponder,
that time of year has come again, to let my spirit wander.

I seek the treats that lie in wait, for those who wish me well,
and for those who leave me out, I shall drag them down to hell.

Walk thee softly on this night, and glance around in fear,
the spirits from the earth below, are seeking food and cheer.

Make haste now to prepare my meal, with wine and meat and bread,
tis been a year of hunger pains, among the living dead.

You have one night to make a feast, for those who sleep below,
but if you fail and run away, your kids I’ll take in tow.

Should you look upon my face, when I let my spirit fly,
then you will join me in my grave, for you shall surely die.
