Broken Wings

A mother tries to warn her daughter, she's swimming in dangerous waters.

By DJ. Venson

Beaten and battered sat her daughter,
her mother heartbroken offered her water.
"Brenda, I am so afraid
he'll kill you child, one of these days."

"Momma, you don't understand
how much I really love this man.
He didn't mean to raise his hand."

"Your eye is black, your lips are swollen,
all your money he has stolen.
What more does he have to do,
to prove he doesn't love you?"

"Momma, you still don't understand
what it's like to love such a man.
When he's not drinking,
my best interest he is thinking.
You and daddy used to fuss and fight,
went on like that almost every night."

"Yes my child, we went some rounds.
He beat me up even knocked me down,
til I placed him in the ground.

But for my crime - I'm serving time.
I once was young - now I'm old
sentenced to Life without parole."
