Let down by friends, family, and paid professionals.
For A While

For a while it was enough
To pay for the illusion
To make believe
Someone finally cared
Understood.

For a while I was fool enough
To believe the charade
To feel it as real
Crying on a welcoming
Shoulder.

For a while I could believe
The bill would be paid but
Moneychangers in the temple
Pretenders to the throne
So I tip the tables
Condemn myself.

I was too late
For my sake
For your sake
Someone or something has crept in
Taken it all away
I was too late
Now love is gone
I don’t believe in it anymore
I won’t grieve it anymore.

I would rather be
Crucified
Than misunderstood
Vilified
Than mischaracterized
Mulch
Than a fool
For love
For hope
For friendship
For family.

For a while never lasts for long.
