What it's like in polite society, thecowards, the deceit The wolves descend upon you to eat
Where the Decent Man finds Defeat

Along the road, I sought approbation from the dissenters
And in the heart of them lied the king of all besetters
He felt gushing naivety and groaned in pure delight
His sly welcome laced a message, We'll feed good tonight!

I braved their swords earnestly
Always a diplomat, I argued my fate fervently
I tried to find a stronger heart among them
But found cowards (all of them!), rehearsing for the requiem

But alas, with my flaws flushed, I found no comity
I resorted to pleads of the highest depravity
The defeat I witnessed, was played best from my own hand
Had I not cared, I'd have kept my heart from those pesky gormands!
