This is a poem about one of the best coaches I had in Club Volleyball who influenced me.
That coach
Whistling and cheering us on
Would pace back and forth
Keeping a smile on her face
Her long dull brown hair
Pulled back in a low hair tie
And she was never in a bad mood
With her assistant at her side
They would chat among themselves
To make our team better
Trying to fix any single problem we had
Knowing that was physically impossible
Keeping up with us,
When we were down,
She was the one to pick us right back up
Not a screech or yell from her mouth,
Just telling us what we should do to get better
Stay low when you pass the ball,
Read the hitter, and don’t get caught behind the block
I remember her chanting on the sidelines
Last year was one of the best seasons I have ever had
Great times in my memory
Long drives to Indiana I will never forget
Inside jokes and laughter is all we could hear.
Winning wasn’t everything, but learning and
Improving was everything.
She taught us to love, and forget the mistakes.
I miss her coaching us; she was the most enthusiastic coach
I ever knew, but I found that interesting,
Because when she was enthusiastic,
We would do better and win more.
No question about it,
The best volleyball coach ever.
