The Balance of evidence

"Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against the pharaoh
king of Egypt, and I will break his arms. . . And I will scatter the
Egyptians among the nations.. .. And I will strengthen the arms of
the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand." Ezek 30:4-16

Isra pondered this text. She had been born in Egypt. Now,
she was living in Brooklyn. "How strange. None of this has happened."
she whispered to herself as she flipped the pages of her Bible.
Isra was adopted by a Christian family. She believed the Bible was
the revealed word of God. "I am not a bad person. I am Christain."
she whispered and read some more:

"Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will give the land
of Egypt to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall carry off
its wealth and despoil it and plunder it; and shall be the wages for his
army. I have given him the land of Egypt as his recompense for which
    he laboured." Ezek 29:18-20

"That never happened." Isra shook her head. She wanted to impress
her parents with her memmory of Bible passages, but these were just
not true. Isra put down her Bible and looked out her window. There was
a blizzard. "Why does God hate so many people?" she thought. She
was just a little girl, but she felt she had a right to know.

She timidly walked on the tips of her toes behind her mother and
pulled her mother's apron strings. "Isra!" her mother scolded and looked
down on her little girl. "Does God hate Egyptians?" Isra asked pointing
to the passages she had read. Her mother smiled, "Of course not."
"But, Ezek said..." Isra was cut off by a pat on her head. "Somethings
are true only after they happen... Who can know God's plan?" her
mother answered and handed her little girl a cookie.

Isra walked away with her Bible in one hand and munching on a cookie
with the other. "That's not an answer" she grumbled.
