In the Garden of Eden, the serpent's anger burns. - 1ST Place

The serpent slithers through the shadows
of the Garden of Eden,
seeking the warmth denied by the night.
His eyes glitter as he surveys
the branches above him.
Their soft pink petals
basking in the orange glow of the moonlight --
mocking him as they glorify God.

Cold and envious, his anger seethes,
until his soul begins a slow burn --
summoning the powers of the dark.
Suddenly, the clouds begin to swirl and sway,
rushing and tumbling in a tumultuous struggle
to snuff out the light of the moon,
as its waning strength gives way to the darkness
of the coming storm.
