This poem was one of my published pieces.
The skeleton hangs from her closet.
It hangs to remind her of the crime she committed.
She killed someone very close to her.

The girl was only sixteen when she committed this murder.
She killed this innocent person after his birth.
The girl choked him with her red ribbon.

She felt enormous guilt for killing her baby
and wondered why she did not explore other options.
Years went by as her guilt grew into the skeleton in her closet.

Sometimes the skeleton cries at night for life.
Other nights, he calls for his mommy.
At times, he merely hangs there wanting her to feel guilty.

Note: I was inspired by a case that happened in a town 10 miles from where I live. A 16 year old girl killed her newborn son by tying a sock around his neck. This was just my take on it. This happened back in 1999. This poem was published September 08 by an ezine called Expressions that is part of Sams dot publishing.
