Something I wrote after watching something on WWII
I stand before the devil and his demons

They hold out a shovel for us to use

Each of us take one, man woman even a child who was no more than 14

"Dig!" we here from the devil, his demons stand ready to enforce his command

The earth below us is hard, like the world is made of steel

We are expected to get through it

No one complains or tries to reason with him

We were given the piece of earth we got

There guns remind us of what is to come

Death, mercy disguised

Some of us fear the brass bullet that await us

Others begin to dig faster as they always have

I mindfully dig taking in each beauty in each shovel full of dry dead earth

The sun beats down on our heads burning our skin

Exhaustion comes soon, those who feared the brass bullet now embrace its rest

I myself wouldn't mind sleep, but not before looking at the stars

Then as the last mound of dirt is put to the top of the earth we all stand waiting

We know what we are to do but dare not do it without our orders

Then in German he yells "Get in!"

Again some jump in others fear the ground like as if it was filled with snakes

I don't haste to the comfort that waits but do not fear it neither

I only enjoy what I have before I sink below the earth line

As I lay down in the earth I look up at the soft sky with the softer ground to my back

I no longer grew weary of the suffering heat that some had died from

I no longer choked from a suffocating cloud

I only waited as I herd the pops of liberated sound finally resting

The pops grow closer and closer my heart begins to speed up but then I remember the rest that await from the brass key

A shadow stands above me

He looks down at me with soulless eyes

He thinks he is doing the world good when he is really doing me good

He thinks he is confining me to a grave when really I am on top of a soft bed that will give my body rest as my soul leaves

That is why I smile as the brass bird enters my body
