How billions of years can be spent waiting for a single moment of brilliance.
A comet lazily tracing an ellipse around a star,
Pressed forth by inertia; its speed fed by unseen forces
Passing through the crown of the sun,
Light dances off the myriad particles following the sunbolt
Yellows, reds, oranges violets blues, and brilliant white...

Wayward streams of dust become the comet's tail
Infinitely they fall further away; the trail narrows to a speck
Longingly that speck yields to the pull of a heavenly body
Leaving the starspear's entourage, that speck moves on

Paused beneath the lucid sky on a cold night,
On a windswept jetty by an icy tumbling sea,
Wrapped in a thick blanket two lovers regard the sky
Energy from above bathes them in a sudden breathtaking glow,
Realizing its own goal, this speck becomes a wishing star.
