the quiet visions during a long life's final moments
Final Breath

A minute's peace ends with trying tears
And cold regret brought from younger years
All past mistakes and forgotten wrongs
Come swift and sudden with haunting songs

They call the specters of pain and strife
Up from the dead in the cold of night
They bring to mind the forgotten tales
Of beaus long gone and loves that failed

The end of life call now to view
The lies once told, the hurts and truths
All mixed in a pool of loss and pain
that weigh so heavy as strength now wanes

The cries of yesterday's dead romance
And the ending step to life's final dance
Mark the end of a life long lived
And offer the soul a brief reprieve

As the final breath escapes the night
While the room is bathed with eerie light
Longing memories waltz through the air
And blind eyes watch though nothing's there
