My muse’s whispered apology...hands that touch and intertwine...smiles that fade...
My muse’s whispered apology
As it floats away
Hiding from me
Caressing me with its last words
As it fades into the oblivion of forlorn insanity
Leaving me alone
Nowhere to turn but to my books and to my thoughts

Hands that touch and intertwine
Not feeling what is
Not feeling what could be
Not feeling the spark that has passed through them
Ripping souls apart to the core
Leaving them raw and exposed to the world
Nowhere to turn but to each other

Smiles that fade
As understanding floods through
Proliferating
Seeping into every ignited cell
Attempting to stifle the flames that burn heavily
Leaving the sun’s scorching heat in its wake
Nowhere to turn but to a cold moon to sooth the pain

Whispered apologies,
Sighing in the sweet relief of forgiveness
Hands that intertwine
Gripping each other desperately
Smiles that fade
Sending waves of saddened understanding
Leaving souls bare and new
Warmed yet cooled
One with our small insignificant world
But separated by thoughts and words that have been left unsaid.

Everything leaving nowhere to turn but to another
Leaving nowhere to turn but away from what you know
Whispered apologies, hands that hold desperately, smiles that fade away
Leaving nowhere to turn but to what should be
