mans best friend
I walk through the forest eyes open wide
With my best friend Cooper by my side
She doesn’t talk or comment on the site
She walks next to me taking in sun light
We’ve taken this walk many times before
But I fear my dear furry companion will have no more
It’s the end of her days and life will end swift
But spending our lives together has been a great gift
I know she wished to come here for her last breath
So we lay in the grass my head on her chest
She looks at me panting with love in her eyes
And I look back with tear and sigh
This is not the end for her at all
But another beginning as her chest rises and falls
I kiss her wet nose and tell her she’s my own
And she lays her head down and moves on to unknown
I know my companion is at peace
Running in fields and chasing geese.
This is the cycle of living
So take comfort knowing
They are at peace and at rest
