A scene I observed one hot summer day at the ice cream parlor! True story.
31 Flavors

31 Flavors

He’s only three feet tall

Even on tip tippy toes

Silver case is all

That he can see

“What will it be?”

“Pink bubblegum please

Yum yummy yum”

Then, kid scoop in a cup

Upon getting his scoop

Frown looking up

“Grams, I’m not…I’m not

Supposed to

Have this little cup

I get the big…”

“This’ll be enough, son”

One a foot shorter

Drags a chair over

He can see in now

The chocolate swirl

Will be his thrill

“And for you?”

“Double dip cup please

Very berry strawberry”

“Coming right up, dear”

One four feet tall

Eyes an ice cream cake

“Daddy, you could always

Get me one of those

For next Valentine’s Day”

That would be nice ya know

Can’t yet be time to go

“Have any leftovers?”
