A few words I wrote when my mum died.
Since you left us, Mum, life is not the same,
We felt so safe when you were here,
Now we sit alone,
I wish you could come back again,
But I know that cannot be,
And I know you wouldn't want us to be sad,
Just cos we're on our own.
I think of happy days,
When we were a family,
I think of your funny ways,
And kindnesses to me.
I'm glad of what you taught me,
To be myself, to be a friend,
I'll try to be what you wanted me to be,
And I'll treasure your memory
To the end.
