The saga of old age.
SOLD TO DEATH

When heart no longer sings a song,
When pain with pleasure comes along,
When always sad memories throng,
Then existence is cold.

When one has unfulfilled desire,
When heart is cold, hearth has no fire,
When from the young, one earns but ire,
Then old age does unfold.

When life has no colour, no hope,
When it sags on a downhill slope,
And hangs from a thin withered rope
Then one has become old.

When knees totter and fingers shake,
When one’s own bed one cannot make,
When life is but turmoil and ache,
Then one to death is sold.
