Rhyme celebrating placentas
It was there when you were just a cell too small to see
Waiting with you patiently 'till the day you'd both be free

It fused with you, it grew with you in the womb where you were kept.
It held you close, it cradled you, it fed you while you slept.

You came first to tears of joy and mummy's great delight
And then came poor, old Afterbirth who gave her such a fright!

Ugly, wet and slimy -  a nameless, smelly shit
While you were washed, received a name and got to suck a tit!

You've been given life, to laugh and work and play
While Afterbirth's an after-thought that's simply thrown away!

Perhaps the world would not have been so full of hate and dread
If Afterbirths had stuck around and we'd been binned instead!
