I watched my four month old wake up this morning.
Welcome to the world of color and shape.
It's no wonder you have your mouth all agape,
Ready to consume all smells and tastes.
Alive to every moment as no time wastes.

Welcome to the world of pain and toil.
Each muscle seems to spring from a coil,
Piercing the air with arms and legs.
The wind pleads mercy and constantly begs.

Welcome to the world of light and darkness.
Days bring new life and night brings starkness.
Creation's beauty lays hidding in slumber.
Yet, sleep allows one to sleep like lumber.

Welcome to the world of life and death.
It is no neglect that you're bereft
Of notions of ending, or completions or stops.
Life begins with a flight, then suddenly drops.

Welcome to the world of beauty and coarse.
The lion, the pyramids, the wars, and the horse,
Are things that will capture your attention.
Yet, one more thing would I like to mention.

Welcome to the world of love and hate.
And on love I would love for you to meditate.
Family, and home, and belonging are all words
That are within love's enrapturing herds.
