MOUNTAIN OF MEMORIES

Twenty eight years I have lived on this mountain,
in awe of the morning sun shining through pines.
I still feel the thrill of the setting sun in the distance,
and the pathway I have followed as slowly it winds
through the mountain, my mountain of memories.

I would never trade the glow of the stars at night
for all the bright lights that the city might offer me.
Here I raised my family, experienced joy and pain,
but through it all, I was happy and felt I was free.
I hold on tightly to the memories. my mountain.

It was here that I watched the doe and her fawn
cautiously enter the field to feed on spring grass,
the doe lifting her head to listen to distant cries
of the birds that flew above the woodland pass.
More memories to cherish as I grow old.

It was here that I watched the first snow falling,
delighting in the sight as it covered the trees.
I was as one with nature, enjoying a carefree life
among the wonders brought on by the breeze.
Winter majesty, and seasons come and go.

In Spring I watch for the first sign of crocus,
remembering that the wildflowers will come
to decorate the hillside with color so vivid,
the chance I have to bask in the morning sun.
I long to feel the warmth of summer soon.

Roses bloom in summer, the beauty of life
is all around me, how truly blessed I am!
Followed by Fall, when the color of leaves
brightens the world and my spirit once again.
Cycle of life, on my mountain of memories.
