Poem of nature's effect on us (living in a unique climate)
It’s grey today
That same grey from when I was a kid on Christmas morning.
Upper Peninsula Michigan winter grey that
Causes stillness
As if nothing will ever change.

Back then I waited patiently for my parents to rise
But the frosty air hung on every object
Including me
Forcing me to stay lieing in bed.
The haze rounded off the appearance of sharpness from all corners
Like deep snow
Transforming angles into curves.

And I believed the haze’s story
That only the grey would continue
And the rest of us would be insignificant.

That expansive cloud persisted
Despite my meager attempts to conjure it
Into nicely formed rain
Or scatter it into sunny rays
On crisp landscapes.
