A poem looking at the modern act of remembrance.
They come in
Lined up in formation
With poppies deep on their chests
They sing, they pray, they say
Amen
An older woman allows a tear to water the pew
But no poppies grow here

They gave their today for ours
They preserved our tomorrow by sacrificing theirs

The masses walk out
Heads bowed

Then
They turn on their phones
Smile and drive
Carrying on as normal
Just like they would have wanted

Just like they would have wanted
