"...who...bare their sharp, yellow teeth/At the slightest provocation..."
Those nasty, filthy, recalcitrant scavengers;
Canines who might ferociously bark
And bare their sharp, yellow teeth
At the slightest provocation of danger…
Creatures of all sizes, shapes, and callings
Avoiding these innocent, but surly beasts
As they roam in their constant search,
With an unbridled anticipation and dark, glaring eyes.
From the callous city streets to the dusty, old rails,
To the remote country roads and alleys,
These prowling dogs hover, rove, and sniff
In a reckless, cold, and truthful way,
A rather imposing and threatening display away
From making their frightened enemies retreat,
To the safety of a far off, friendly
And more auspicious locale…
