SCREAMING GHOSTS

*Ghost* *Ghost* *Ghost*

It was the midnight hour and I was fast asleep,
my dreams were the sort I didn't want to keep.
I'm in the middle of a cemetery, walking around,
reading names on stones of the earthly bound.

The night turned darker, so much to my dismay,
only a sliver of the moon through clouds gave way.
The wind picked up, and I felt a sudden chilling,
I would run away but my old feet were not willing.

Frozen to the spot, and in mortal fear and dread,
sounds of screaming were deep inside my head.
Logically, this could not be really happening, so
I laughed it all off, and bid them all rest far below.

I woke with a start to the bright early morning sun,
my trip to the unknown world of ghosts was done!
Yet, the memories come and go as memories will,
and the screaming ghosts often haunt me still.

Oh, REST IN PEACE, ghosts of the bitter past!
The dreams of the night will be forgotten at last,
No more the pain of walking with the unforgiving,
I will choose to stay awhile longer with the living!
